Fed: Downer says Aust won't change tune over Iraq wheat offer

CANBERRA, Feb 23 AAP - Australia would not be persuaded to change its mind on Iraqby threats or by incentives to continue trading wheat with it, Foreign Minister AlexanderDowner said today.

Mr Downer said the government was not embarrassed by Iraq's decision to resume buyingAustralian wheat.

He said Australia had two wheat contracts with Iraq each of 500,000 tonnes throughthe United Nations oil-for-food program.

Iraq was in the processing of fulfilling the first order but resources were not yetavailable for the second, he said.
