FED: Rural youth encouraged to become industry leaders

The federal government has launched a program to encourage greater leadership by young
people in rural Australia.

Federal Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry Minister WARREN TRUSS says the three-year
initiative is costing $1.3 million.

He says it encourages 18-35 year olds working in rural sectors to improve their management
skills.

Mr TRUSS says the program includes a leadership course, study scholarships and training
in corporate management skills.

There's also a national grants program for rural youth organisations, and a science initiative.

Mr TRUSS says feedback from young Australians shows they want to be more involved in
their industries and in broader, national issues.
